4月29日、COARSE studio night

Mark Landwehr（マーク・ランドーワー）をはじめ、数人のスタッフが慌ただしく準備中のCOARSE studioに、開場時刻より1時間早く上がり込んだ。
撮影禁止のサインが貼られた1:3サイズの大作pain in dreams（ペイン・イン・ドリームズ ）以外は、去年、台湾のParadise Toy Landで開催された作品展の内容とほぼ同じ。
ま、この傷ついたからだでマットに横たわるnoop（ヌープ）の姿を直視できただけでも、十分、出かけて来た甲斐はあったのだった。
これが8月に留之助プロデュースによる東京での作品展でリリースされるかと思うと、胸が高鳴る。
予定ではCOARSE studio night開場まえに東京展の詰めの話をするはずが、案の定、マークは設営が忙し過ぎてそれどころじゃない。
このまえ、彼がMonsters & Misfits II展のオープニング・レセプションに駆けつけてくれたのは、やはり作品展の打ち合わせを兼ねていたのだけれど、その時はこちらにゆとりがなかった。
こんな感じで8月を迎えるんだろうなぁ。During the 3A Reventure show in Hong Kong, Coarse has opened its doors for fans who made the trip, to get an exclusive studio tour. An hour before opening, I visited the studio while many staff were busily working. Mark Landwehr was busy at exhibit, so I couldn't confirm I needed for the exhibition in August in Tokyo...

4月28日、Michael Lauと固く約束

今回の香港行きはCOARSE studio nightがきっかけになったけれど、ずいぶんまえから出かける機会をうかがっていたのだった。
熱しやすく冷めやすい日本流のビジネスに翻弄されたからなのか、ここ数年、日本から遠ざかっていたMichael Lau（マイケル・ラウ）とひさしぶりに会って、これからのことを話し合いたいと思っていたのだ。
去年3月には留之助主催の東北地方太平洋沖地震義援金キャンペーンTOYS HELP USに素晴らしい作品を提供してくれたり、マイケルとのリレーションはけっして悪くない。
だから一歩踏み込んで、彼のプライベート・サイトcrazysmilesでしか買えないような作品を留之助が扱える道筋をこしらえてもいいころじゃないか、と。
27日、マイケルの秘書 (?) Florance Yip（フローレンス・イップ）に到着した旨をメールすると、翌28日昼過ぎ、引っ越して間もない新スタジオに招待されたのだった。
ビルのワンフロアーを贅沢に改装したスタジオは九龍（カオルーン）地区の、じつはThreeAの斜め向かいにあった。聞けばフローレンスは3年半前に結婚したマイケルの美しい奥方で、イタリアのアパレル・ブランドFENDIのアジア太平洋地区のマーケティング・ディレクターを務めるかたわら、ファイン・ウォッチとジュエリーのデザイナーとして自らのブランドalmost normalを運営している才女なのだった。
創作が専門のマイケルに代わり、彼女が今後の取り引きについてテキパキと対応してくれた。
いまはインベントリー・リストの到着を待つのみ、パリのcoletteでしか買えないフローレンスがデザインした腕時計とマイケルがデザインしたフクロウのフィギュアのボックス・セットも留之助で取り扱えそうだ。
29日の香港最後の夜は、同伴した16歳の息子ともどもジャッキー・チェン・チャーシューで有名な銅鑼湾（コーズウェイベイ）の西苑酒家（サイユン・ザウガー）でご相伴にあづかったのだった。I visited Michael Lau's new studio in Kowloon. That was the first time to meet him in two years. We had a lively conversation and he allowed me to introduce his works which people could purchase only at his private site crazysmiles to collectors in Japan. I also may be able to introduce their collaboration works almost normal which Michael's beautiful wife Florance Yip, a jewelry designer conducts. Please wait for next news.

4月27日、ThreeA Hong Kong Re-Venture Art and Toy Show

COARSE studio nightへの招待があった直後、ThreeAからも27日夜のHong Kong Re-Venture Art and Toy Showの招待状が届き、2泊3日の予定を1日繰り上げて香港へ来たのだった。
盛大なレセプション会場でじっくり作品を鑑賞し、アジアの業界人たちと再会もできたりで、じつに有意義な夜となった。This is the best shot of ThreeA Hong Kong Re-Venture Art and Toy Show?

たった1日だけ、招待客オンリーのCOARSE作品展がThreeAの協賛で開催される。
場所はホンコン、なので出かけて来る。
お土産を持ち帰れるといいね。Of course, I will attend the coarse studio night.

Kieth Poon (aka Keithing)、ご来店

ToyQubeのオーナーでデザイナーのKeith Poon（キース・プーン）が新婦のMaGgie（マギーちゃん）を伴い、１ヵ月がかりの新婚旅行の途中に日本を訪れ、このたび留之助に寄ってくれた。
店では彼がデザインしたオブジェモチャすべてにサインを入れてもらい、その後、市内に点在する史跡を案内したり、夜は高山の伝統に則った最高の夕食でもてなした。
明日は下呂温泉に１泊し、そのあとふたりは大阪から香港へ向かう。Keith Poon, an owner and designer of ToyQube, stopped by in Japan and visited Hida Takayama, which is where Tomenosuke is located, during his one-month honeymoon with his cute bride MaGgie. At the shop, he autographed all the toys designed by him. Then, he was shown around the city’s many historic sites. Also, for dinner, he was treated with the best of the traditional Takayama cuisine.

年頭のごあいさつ。

昨年は留之助商店にとって挑戦的な年でした。
3月11日に東北地方を襲った太平洋沖地震の影響でCOARSETOYSの作品展が急きょキャンセルされたり、Monsters & Misfits（怪物と不適応者たち）展がアーティスト不在のまま開催されました。
しかしながら留之助が初めてプロデュースしたMonsters & Misfits展はユニークな展覧会として高い評価をいただき、ほとんどの作品が瞬時に売り切れるという成功を収めました。
また東北地方太平洋沖地震義援金キャンペーンTOYS HELP USの呼びかけには、多方面から協力をいただき多額の寄付金が集まりました。
オリジナル・アート・フィギュアLady Butterflyのリリース、数々のTomenosuke Exclusive Toyを発売できたのも、内外のアーティストやメーカー、コレクターの協力があればこそでした。
この場をかりて、すべてのサポーターのみなさまに感謝申し上げます。
そして今年も留之助商店をお引き立てくださいますよう、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。The year 2011 was a challenging year for Tomenosuke.
This is because an exhibition of COARSETOYS was suddenly canceled due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, which hit the Tohoku area on March 11th, as well as the fact that the exhibition for Monsters & Misfits was held without artists.
However, Monsters & Misfits, which Tomesuke first organized, was highly regarded as an unique show from various quarters, and it contributed the success of most of the works instant sold out.
Also, TOYS HELP US, a fundraising campaign for the Great East Japan Earthquake, supported by various sectors, collected a large amount of donation.
All achievements, including the release of original art figure, Lady Butterfly, and the sales of various Tomenosuke Exclusive Toy, would never accomplished without cooperation from artists, makers and art toy collectors inside and outside.
We appreciate all the people supporting us, as well as your continuing support for Tomenosuke in 2012.

DCon 2011/スナップその2。

サイン会準備中のふたりのアーティスト、左はお馴染みのkaNO、右はやっと会えたSket One（スケット・ワン）である。
スケットには彼の限定版カスタム・8インチ・ダニーを真っ先に譲ってもらったり、東北地方太平洋沖地震義援金キャンペーンTOYS HELP USでは多大な協力をいただいた、けれど、いつもメール交換のみ。
で、DCon 2011に彼が参加すると知ったときからこの日を楽しみにしていたのだ。
写真で見るよりは細身の感じかな、両腕のタトゥーも鮮やかで、昔からの知り合いのように気さくだった。
今度は留之助ユーザーのためにスペシャルな何かを作ってもらう約束もしたのでご期待を。

Although I exchanged e-mail so many times with him, we have not met before yet. But since I got to know he would be joining DCon, I have been looking forward to this day. He was very nice guy as I had expected and treated me as if we were long-known friends.

NYCC 2011でも会った画家Angry Woebots（アングリー・ウォーボッツ）が天才の筆さばきでパンダを描いていた。Angry Woebots drew Panda with genius brush strokes.

The Loyal SubjectsのブースでJoe Ledbetter（ジョー・レッドベター）を囲む左がロイサブのオーナー、ジョナサン・キャセイと右がジョナサンのガールフレンドのブランディちゃん。The left person surrounding Joe Ledbetter at The Loyal Subjects booth is the president Jonathan Cathey and the right person is Brandee, Jonathan’s beautiful girl friend.
