留之助6周年ロブノ・ウォーリアー物語

第1弾にしてシリーズの総称でもあるBuckingham Warrior（バッキンガム・ウォーリアー）が、ホロコーストから生還したGary Baseman（ゲイリー・ベースマン）の父親に捧げられた作品だということや、第2弾のKostopol Warrior（コストポル・ウォーリアー）がゲイリーの母親の故郷であり、ナチによるユダヤ人虐殺の舞台となったウクライナのコストポルに由来していることなど、これまでにも紹介してきたけれど、留之助開店6周年記念Rovno Warrior（ロブノ・ウォーリアー）について、ゲイリーから作品解説が届いたので直訳する。

バッキンガム・ウォーリアーについてだけど、知ってのとおり、それぞれのカラーウェイは僕の両親の故郷の町に関係がある。
僕の父親はBerezne（ベレーゼン）、母親はKostopol（コストポル）の出身だ。
両親が育った町は、Rovno（ロブノ）という名前の都市の郊外にある。
両親の故郷はそれぞれ人口3000人の町で、ロブノには20,000人が住んでいた。
でも、ロブノに住むユダヤ人の運命は、両親の町に住むユダヤ人と同じくらい暗いものだった。

彼らも全員が大量虐殺されたんだ。
ロブノはあの地域を代表する大都市で工業的に発展した都市だと思ったから、ロブノを表現するのにシルバーを選んだ。
シルバーを選んだ理由は他にもある。父は自分の両親と同胞の殺害に関与した男たちを制裁したあと、もうひとりの“同志”といっしょにロブノ刑務所に入れられた。

でも、どんな収容所、有刺鉄線、鉄格子でも無理だったように、ロブノ刑務所も父を拘束することはできなかった。

父は何とかして、逃げたか、釈放されたか、誰かに助けられて自由の身になった。

生き残ることに懸命な“鉄の意志”ではないにせよ、生きようとする父の強い意志をシルバーは象徴しているんだ。

With the Buckingham Warrior, each color way has to do with the towns of my Parents, as you know.
My father is from Berezne, my mother is from Kostopol.
Rovno is the name of the city that my parent's towns were part of the suburbs.
Where my parents came from towns of 3000, there were 20,000 in Rovno.
But the fate of the Jews of Rovno were just as dark as the fate of them in my parents towns.
They were also all mass murdered.
I picked SILVER to represent Rovno since I imagined it to be the bigger more industrial city representing the area.
I also picked Silver, because after my father killed the men responsible for the deaths of his parents and brethren, he and another "partisan" was thrown in the Rovno Jail.
But just like any other camp or barb wire or bars, the Rovno Jail could not hold my father.
Somehow he either escaped, was released or freed by others.
The silver also represents his strong will to live, if not "iron will" to survive and strive.
